Paperjam

Due to some sort of technology/dexterity deficiency on my part I've imported the CD backwards so I get what turns out to be Tiny Lucifer up first. It is unmistakably ATS from the first few bars, a tunefully sombre and darkly comedic tale of a badly behaved toy bear: "gambles and drinks shuffles up the drain pipe, lit moodily by next door's security light". Is this a tale of demonic possession or some kind of Fight Club multiple personality action with a teddy bear instead of Brad Pitt? I don't know but it sounds really good, reminds me a bit of a Nick Cave/Warren Ellis soundtrack, but with more birds being pissed on.

Next up is Silver Rays which shares the same acoustic piano/guitar dna, but is much more chilled out and has mention of fairy lights and a kids bike. There's a bit of solo whistling action before the song delicately unwinds and is all over before you know it.

So there you are, two great new tracks from easily the most underrated band on the planet. if you already have their other records these new tracks will slot easily into your ATS playlist, if not this is a great place to start. The songs are going to be available in early April on iTunes, fingers crossed they will sell loads and lead to more releases.

In an unaccountably exciting move, paper-jam is making the move from the virtual, internet world to the actual, physical, visceral universe that you are sat in now. Sort of like Kelly Le Brock in Weird Science.

Anyhow, the reason for this unprecedented development is the leap into the multimedia omniverse represented by the production of the very first paper-jam film, The Toilet Story. An epic comedy filmed in Leamington Spa's very own Clarendon public house and starring an array of local talent the likes of which has not seen anywhere round here since Shakespeare realised that putting on the odd bit of theatre was a fairly good way of trying to get off with girls.

In addition to the world premiere of this eight minute spectacular, a whole film-centric event has been planned out and will be hosted at Leamington's foremost popcorn emporium, the Apollo cinema at 8pm on Thursday 19th May.

Leamington Underground Cinema will be a night of cult short films, the afore-mentioned premiere and the finest film quiz this side of Bollywood, all in the company of compere without compare Jon Kennedy. More details will be carefully leaked prior to the event, but be assured that the content is going to be amusing, unusual and just very slightly wrong, so no under 18s I am afraid.

Tickets for this unique event are a mere five quid and can be purchased from the Star and Garter, the Clarendon - or by tracking me down and shoving your filthy lucre at me.

Following the, quite frankly, unexpected success of the inaugral Leamington Underground Cinema event, the glorious central committee has decided to carry on with the idea of more irregular film events for the masses. To this end there will be another attempt to drink the bar dry at the Leamington Apollo in September - but before that comes an exciting development in the form of The Remote Control Film Night - The free, one-night film festival you can enjoy without leaving the house.

The idea is that you, the audience can enjoy the event from wherever you like over the web, while we at LUC will be sending out communiques throughout the evening from an encrypted mainframe within a hidden bunker in a secret location.

The content of the evening will be all sorts or weird and wonderful online film treats, as well as another Jon Kennedy film quiz tour-de-force via the wonders of the internet.

Due to the futuristic, virtual nature of this event there is no limit to the number of people who can join in so please let anyone else know who might fancy it - especially if you don't like them very much.

Like last time this will be an evening extravaganza of cult short films along with the now legendary film quiz - all hosted by Jon Kennedy and his Underground Usherettes. This time for a bit of extra fun there will be an exciting prize for the best movie related costume worn on the night - but if dressing up isn't your thing, don't panic, there will be prizes on offer for the quiz too.
