GOOGLEWACK – when two random words (words that must exist in the dictionary) are put into the google search engine, which then comes up with just one site containing both those words.
WHAT happens when your name is Dave Gorman and you wake up with a monster hangover on New Year’s Day, 2003, at Heathrow Airport, with passport in one pocket and a flight ticket to Washington DC in another?
It’s the start of another mental journey based on a bet, that’s what. Only this time Dave isn’t looking for people who share the same name as him. This time one of his new found friends, a Dave Gorman from the south of France, bet him he couldn’t find 10 googlewacks in a row and meet them too.
The catch? He has to do it before his 32nd birthday on March 2, 2003, when he officially becomes a “grown up” and stops all this nonsense of chasing stupid bets.
So begins a 90 minute rant about his weird and wonderful journey, complete with pie charts and graphs, a lot of shouting and drunkenness (not on the stage mind you), tears of frustration and cheers of joy.
Dave’s quest takes him to America, into a battle with a creationist, another battle with a bouncer in Texas, to China, back to Britain, Wales, Essex (he didn’t find anything there – surprised?) and finally to Australia (where I am at the mo if you hadn’t noticed).
What makes Dave a genius is that he can get away with putting so much effort into such a mundane idea and become rich and famous by doing it. We’re just all jealous that we didn’t think of it first.
If you ever get the chance to see him at one of his shows, then GO. As well as his superb storytelling, the man has so much energy and does not stop talking for the whole 90 minutes – not even to have a drink or take a deep breath.
And if you get to see him at the Sydney Opera House it’s a lot better because as well as being able to take you drink in with you, you’re not in England, soaking up the drizzle and the rain and the cold. You’re in Australia doing it instead!
Oh…you want to know how it ends? Well…bugger off and buy your own ticket to find out you tight arse.

If you enjoyed the shows on TV then you should get the book on his namesake search as you get to hear Dannys side of the story. Well funny

In her defense (seeing as how she don’t write to me no more) Vanessa is just on extended holiday down under and is actually from sunny Rugby.
It pisses down in Rugby, believe me , I know.
