YouTube: Worth all that money?
Web // Jim // 11th October 2006
You may have heard the news today regarding Google's purchase of YouTube for a colossal $1.6 Billion. The media has been full of all sorts of commentary and analysis regarding the transaction. What are he implications for the web? How can you pay that much for a company that has yet to make any money at all? Will it dilute the anarchic abandon with which people put up manifestly copyright material with little or no fear of litigation?
The resounding answer to all these and more is: Who gives a toss? No one cares what happens to YouTube as long as you can still waste long, long hours of your life that you aren't going to get back again dredging up all sorts of video brilliance such as the following...
Clinton's Last Days
Clinton
So what if he was banging the interns in the oval office? Who cares that he totally ignored that whole Rwanda situation until it was far too late? Is anyone really bothered about the myriad, seldom reported air strikes ridding the free world of strategic military targets such as hospitals and schools all around the globe for little or no reason?
At least Bill Clinton had the good sense to make this funny short film just before he left office. All is forgiven Bill.
Trapped In The Closet by R Kelly
R Kelly
Easily one of the strangest things I have ever laid eyes and ears on. A twelve part "hip hop-era" performed by under-age ladies man R Kelly. Steve sent me this a while ago suggesting I go straight for episode 9, he wasn't wrong. Pick your jaw off the floor as you watch what is undeniably the shonkiest soap opera of all time, narrated in an R&B style by R himself. The way in which he does little impressions of some of the characters voices is absolutely priceless. The whole thing almost defies description, but lets have a go: Weird City.
Theres a description of the whole sorry affair over at Wikipedia. You might also remember that this whle thing is linked into the famous (but not broadcast in this country) episode of South Park involving Tom Cruise.
Matthew Le Tissier
Le Tissier
One of the great joys of any working day is kicking back at lunchtime and looking for classic footie clips on the web. My personal footballing hero is the man Southampton fans still call Le God. This may be because we were such similar players, admittedly his first touch was slightly superior to mine, but I feel I was definitely a match for him in the speed, laziness and not-being-all-that-skinny categories.
This clip is his ten greatest goals, the pick being the one against Newcastle which you can never really get tired of watching, especially I imagine if you area Sunderland fan. Also well worth a butchers is this clip of Bergkamp in action, including another one against Newcastle which almost defies belief.
Hurra Torpedo

I have very little idea of why this exists, but lets all just be happy that it does. Three men in blue tracksuits (with their arses hanging out) do a version of the Bonnie Tyler classic "Total Eclipse Of The Heart". The instruments involved are a guitar and the remnants of someones kitchen. Really, genuinely, ball-achingly funny.
