Oh, and also. I agree with said statements above concerning how movie criticism works.

Criticism's all a load of crap, especially when you remember its just someones opinion. The fact that "real" movie critics thought this movie sucked made me laugh. Even the ones that understood it called it "psycho-bullshit" or whatever. They're too set in their ways to think differently, open their eyes and whatnot.

1) In every game and con there is always a victim and there is always an opponent. It's good to know when you are the former so you can become the latter.

2) But the question is how do you prepare yourself for this game?

3) You only get smater by playing a smarter opponent.

4) The smarter the game the smarter the opponent

5) Checkers is an example of such a game. Chess is a better game. Debate is an even better opportunity to learn and so on.

6) But the question is where does the game stop? or one can ask what is the smartest game one can play?

7) The answer according to the movie is: "The game of con you play with yourself".

-- i think thats the lot of em.

And i could be wrong, but isnt Jim congratulating the director and enjoying the movie in his review? I just saw quite a few statements knocking Jim for NOT liking the film.

Anyway, my take on this film is this:

Its all about enlightenment. This whole movie is not actual events taking place, but just metaphors for the struggle that is playing out in jake's mind. jake is the sense of self trying to regain control and break free from ego (mr. gold). macha is greed. money and drugs represent power over mind. macha has been the dominant personality and has had jake imprisoned for 7 yrs because he provides mr. gold with drugs and money. zach is influence. avi is intuition, which is why jake must give up all of his money to him for his help and also why he always second guesses him and thinks he is playing mind games. we dont always trust our instinct. billy is realistic point of view. billy's daughter is innocence. slim biggins is gluttony. lord john is lust. sorter is the conscience. the doctors are the super conscious. the guy who tells billy to tell jake to get out is the sub-conscious. the elevator is fear. which is what ego hides behind. after macha receives the newspapers and starts hearing voices in his head, that is ego turning on him. when jake emerges from the elevator and walks past macha he has taken himself back.

Free yourself from all that shiz, and you got enlightenment...ish.

Excellent movie. I don't completely understand it but i recognise that that does not make it 'bad'.

Also, I find it funny that a movie like this gets 17% on Rotten Tamatoes and yet movies like Thor or Rio get 70+.

Hollywood has made the a sad, bleak place.

I'm so glad I watched this movie while I'm still young, before I'm old & cynical, & full of ego & preconceived ideas. I can't believe I'd never heard of this movie until I watched it! I only watched it last week! But u can see it's the same message from The Real Rock n Rolla. "That which starts sweet ends bitter, & that which starts bitter ends sweet." "Beauty is a cruel mistress.", etc.

Enjoyed reading everyone's take on the movie. But, I do feel that the significance of the chakras were overlooked. I.e., green is the heart chakra, blue, red, etc.

From a metaphysical standpoint the Zak and Avi characters could be viewed as a sort of transformation vehicle or mechanism (i.e, black can be associated with the melanin/pineal) one or both could relate to the pineal or third eye. Red, gold, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, white are chakra colors.

Statham had to see through the 'dream' that he was in (his own matrix)..

I also think the point is that we can not defeat our ego (like Buddha figured out) but we must dismantle/neutralize/rise above the fear. That is why the confrontation at the end goes the way it does.

I'm still not 100% on the Andre & Pastore characters (debt collectors syn. to karma) their role and significance felt multi-faceted = I need to see the Director's cut,

Right or wrong...just some observations

I would totally kick the dogshit out of Jason Statham. I can fucking fly. I can stop bullets. AND at the end of the day, my message blows your fucking mind And still makes sense within its medium (aka cinema).

People compare me to Jesus. Not madonna. Jesus. Fuck madonna.

I liked this movie but just cause it was really violent and I am too. I have been to known to jump inside Agents and copy/paste my code on their asses. Agent Smith would pull ray liottas ballsac out of his own throat. Easy.
